High resolution measurements in space and time of the CO2 partial pressure are performed since more than 10 years on a cargo ship that commutes between Helsinki and Lübeck. The data are used to detect and quantify the net community production during spring and the mid-summer nitrogen fixation period, and to identify the control function of nutrients, temperature and solar radiation for the production efficiency. Investigations of the marine CO2 system in stagnant deep water layers are performed in connection with the IOW long-term observation programme. The data facilitate the description of the kinetics and the stoichiometry of the organic matter mineralization during oxic and anoxic conditions.
