After the water renewal in 1980, stagnating conditions caused the formation of H2S in the deep water of all central basins in 1981, except in the western Gotland Basin. H2S also developed in bottom water of the Bornholn Basin in August and in the Gdańsk Basin in November 1981 (NEHRING & FRANCKE, 1983a).
