The NanoSIMS-Lab at the IOW

Since late 2011 a CAMECA NanoSIMS 50L is operated by the Leibniz-Institute for Baltic Sea Research Warnemünde (IOW). NanoSIMS is the abbreviation for secondary ion mass spectrometer (SIMS) performing with a lateral resolution down to 50 Nanometres (Nano). With this instrument up to seven elements and/or isotopes can be analysed and quantified in, e.g., the subcellular level or inorganic particles. The project proposal was a joined effort of the IOW and the University of Rostock and the instrument was funded by the German Ministry of Education and Research. The NanoSIMS facility is open to scientist of other institutions, who can apply for analysis time.
