A MBI of low intensity in Nov./Dec. 1979 caused deep water renewal and oxic conditions in the Bornholm and Gdańsk Basins during all seasons. H₂S was observed in the eastern Gotland Basin during the whole year. In August, oxygen containing water lifted up the anoxic bottom water as a consequence of the MBI. H₂S was measured in the bottom water of the northern basin in May and Oct./Nov. and in the western basin (NEHRING & FRANCKE, 1982).
