The renewal of the deep water in the western and northern Gotland Basins caused improvements in the oxygen conditions in May and July 1987. In November, H₂S was observed again in the bottom water of the northern basin. In the deep water of the eastern Gotland Basin, the stagnation period continued, characterized by high concentrations of H₂S. H₂S was observed since April in the bottom water of the Bornholm Basin and since July in the Gdańsk Basin (NEHRING & FRANCKE, 1988).
