Desalination of Seawater through Electrodialysis
The enrichment of polar, organic compounds from seawater is often conducted with solid phase extraction (SPE). The salt matrix present in seawater can disturb this procedure. Therefore, the enrichment of these compounds is limited to water samples with very low salinity, e.g. river water samples. The analysis of concentrations of these substances in the marine environment is currently not possible.
The aim of this project is the implementation of an electrodialysis system to reduce the salinity of seawater samples, which will enable the described analyses.
This project is funded by the Leibniz Association within the framework of the Leibniz ScienceCampus Phosphorus Research Rostock.
