The IOW has several laboratories for molecular work of the safety level S1.

The techniques applied in these laboratories include molecular analyses as PCR, real-time PCR, genetic fingerprinting, cloning, 454 pyrosequencing, flow cytometry and cell sorting, epifluorescence microscopy, and a laser microdissection system (LMD) and NanoSims.

The IOW has also a laboratory of the biological safety level S2, which offers the opportunity for culture dependent experiments with potentially pathogenic Vibrio strains.
