Danish Maritime Safety Administration (DAMSA) has since early 2008 produced ocean forecasts, using the General Estuarine Transport Model (GETM). The primary purpose of the operational model at DAMSA is to produce ocean forecasts to support navigation in the Danish waters. Nesting models with increasing resolutions and adjustments of the bathymetry are examples of actions that have improved the model results. Here we present model results and observations in the Sound, and east of Kriegers Flak. Special focus is on inflow of high-saline water through the Sound towards the greater depths in the Southern Baltic. The effect of model resolution on the distribution of salinity in the area will also be discussed.
