Abstract: Parameterization of pier induced drag and mixing in the Fehmern Belt Link project

The construction of the Fehmern Belt Link bridge or tunnel will include everal pier or islands across the FB. The effect of these constructions on the exchange flows and mixing imposes environmental concerns. As part of the Environmental Impact Assessments these effects are quantified and the impacts on the flow and mixing described. The investigations comprise laboratory experiments, field observations, CFD modeling and oceanographic modeling. The presentation will describe the methods used and some of the preliminary conclusions.
