The BALTWRECK project builds international capacity for risk assessment and categorisation of wreck sites, and provides tools for remediation of the resulting pollution. Recommendations will be developed for policy makers and local authorities. For the IOW, the project provides an opportunity to further develop a sensitive sensor system for the rapid detection of organic contaminants in seawater and to characterise the study area using established analytical techniques. Together with a subcontractor sampling technologies and chemical and toxicological methods for risk assessment of wreck sites will be developed.
