TRANSEATION:
Advancing Ecosystem-Based Management through Hybrid Blue-Grey Infrastructures in Marine and Coastal Areas

The TRANSEATION project aims to demonstrate the effectiveness of hybrid blue-grey marine and coastal infrastructures and to validate a new level of ecosystem-based management (EBM) combining nature-based solutions and digitalization with social implications for the protection and restoration of marine ecosystem health and services. To this end, the transdisciplinary project consortium will a) apply ecosystem-based management to integrate hybrid nature-based solutions and coastal infrastructures to support the conservation and restoration of marine biodiversity and ecosystem services while addressing multiple societal challenges; b) demonstrate the effectiveness of different coastal protection, offshore wind energy and low trophic aquaculture infrastructures as hybrid nature-based solutions in four demonstration sites and assess their replicability and scalability; c) analyze short and long term benefits and trade-offs of hybrid solutions for the protection and restoration of marine biodiversity and ecosystem services; and d) apply digital solutions for monitoring, analysis and social engagement.
Within the project, IOW will focus on the transfer, application, and further-development of its Systems Approach Framework (developed in BONUS BALTCOAST) into an applicable EBM framework that provides a systematic and stepwise guidance for the planning, development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of hybrid nature-based solutions.
