The project supports the development of monitoring methods and strategies for marine litter under the umbrella of the National German Environmental Agency. A new rake method is applied on Baltic- and North Sea beaches with focus on Meso-litter (0.5 ‐ 2.5 cm). The MircoPhazir (mobile infrared-spectrometer) is used and tested to obtain better and faster analyses of plastic types. Based on this data and information, the Matrix‐Scoring‐Method shall be further-developand to adapted to meso-litter. The results provide an improved knowledge about litter sources and allow the development of efficient measures to reduce the pollution of beaches.
