The aim of the overall project coordinated by the EPFL (Switzerland) is to develop a data-based model for the quantification of hypolimnetic O2 depletion in the hypolimnia of large and complex lakes derived from measured and modelled fluxes from the water column through the diffusive boundary layer (DBL)
to the sediment and measured fluxes of reduced substances from the sediment to the water. IOW will be involved in this project by complementing the field campaign carried out by researchers from EPFL with a high-resolution three-dimensional modeling study, focusing on boundary mixing processes in Lake Geneva.
